Service areas in the context of councils are departments. E.g. Council Tax would be a service area.
We can see below some of the service areas built in the IEG4 Council environment:
The purpose of service areas is to provide a logical grouping of processes and document types. I.e. A Planning Application process would logically be associated with a Planning Service area. When you click on a department (service area) you can change its name in the Details tab and see the document types for this service area that can be linked to it:
The above are the document types associated with the Benefits service area. When a service area is created it is then possible when creating a process to associate it with said service area. The following shows the equivalent for Document Templates:
it is worth understanding the relationships between processes, service areas and document types/ templates. The following illustrates this at a high level:
So a process is linked to a service area.
The document types/templates therefore available to that process are those linked to the service area.
Say there are two processes and each is linked to a different service area.
These service areas can share document types / templates and when each process is accessed the relevant linked document types / templates will be available for selection:
