My Area Directories
Introduction
Councils hold a wealth of information within Graphical Information Systems (GIS), internal databases, spreadsheets and unstructured and structured data within web pages. Opening up such information within corporate websites can be difficult, time-consuming and expensive. Particularly if this information is required to be represented within a map to assist a citizen in finding and accessing both services provided by the council using a "find my nearest" service, or more often where signposting is towards services not offered by the council. Additionally, this functionality can also promote revenue-generating assets that a council may provide, such as Leisure Centres, Arts Venues & Local events nearby to a citizen. Additional benefits that this functionality can realise is promoting local community groups and businesses and reducing carbon footprint by focusing on walking routes to destinations, which positively impacts the health of citizens within the area. The IEG4 Directories module has two user editable areas that require no coding or technical expertise to create and source directories content and to create directory groups which control how they are viewed. There are currently three options for where the IEG4 Directories are accessible by citizens, these are OneVu, WebVu Components for Drupal and CitizenVu. These are installed, styled and configured as part of the implementation.
